ZETECH College has passed rigorous assessments to achieve the milestone of becoming a CISCO Academy, under African Advanced Level Telecommunications Institute (AFRALTI).

According to the arrangement, the College will start by offer training for IT Essentials (ITE) and possibly roll out courses such as CCNA and CCNP as the partnership with AFRALTI matures.

Mr Albanus Mulandi, College IT Manager, says IT Essentials provides hands-on experience for anyone wishing to venture into ICT.

“The IT Essentials curriculum provides an introduction to the computer hardware and software skills needed to help meet the growing demand for entry-level information and communication technology (ICT) professionals. The curriculum covers the fundamentals of computer hardware and software as well as advanced concepts such as security, networking, and the responsibilities of an ICT professional,” he explained.

Mr Mulandi also pointed out that networking is a very promising field but students are locked out due to the cost of CISCO equipment. He explained that ZETECH has invested heavily in CISCO networking equipment, popularly referred to as the CISCO pack, which will allow students to acquire skills that will make the transition from lecture-room to corporate networks seamless.

Lectures and practical sessions will be conducted at the College’s Stanbank Campus, as detailed by the Campus Administration Manager, Mr Charles Kirui.

“Training in ITE will be our initial offering under the new partnership with our Academy Support Centre, AFRALTI. They conducted a site visit and approved Stanbank Campus where the training bundle has been set up, in addition to having CISCO Certified trainers,” said Mr Kirui.

According to the College Principal, Prof. Edwin K. Wamukoya, the milestone is timely as the institution continues to respond to post secondary demand.

“The institution receives massive inquiries regarding various programmes and certifications and we always try to respond by bridging the gap. Offering CISCO training is an indication of quality training and as we look to transitioning into a University, such partnerships will definitely be developed to increase our course offering to cater for the growing appetite for ICT training in this information age,” he remarked.
