Veteran Actor ‘Mzee Ojwang’ Ailing And Living In Abject Poverty

News that veteran thespian has been ailing have rallied corporates and Kenyans from all walks of life to his aid.

Mzee Ojwang whose real name is Benson Wanjau, 77 has been admitted to Loresho Hospital where he is receiving treatment for partial blindness.

The comedian has been a fixture on Kenyan screens since his debut in Darubini which was broadcast on Voice of Kenya (now Kenya Broadcasting Corporation) in 1980. He joined the cast of the iconic Vitimbi in 1985 where he acts as the patriarch Mzee Ojwang’ married to Mama Kayai.

Among the first people to come to his aid is Nairobi senator, Mike Sonko, whose rescue team took him to hospital.

Airtel Kenya has set up MZEEOJWANG fundraising account on Airtel Money for well-wishers to contribute funds towards his hospital bill.

While the talented actor who is married with two children, speaks with a thick dholuo accent he has doesn’t actually speak the language. He is in real life good friends with the family of his on-screen wife, Mama Kayai.
